Health and fitness have been passions of mine ever since I can remember, so when the opportunity came along to become a personal trainer I grabbed it with both hands.

A keen athlete and half decent footballer in my teens, I was contemplating studying sports science at college when a pal convinced me to swerve towards the heady world of marketing instead.

25 years later, having worked in some of London's most respected advertising agencies, I finally decided to follow my heart instead of my head and enrolled on the YMCA's prestigious level 3 advanced gym instructor and personal trainer course.

This proved to be a truly life-changing experience.

I'm now doing something I've always loved - training people who want to improve their fitness - but now I can bring new levels of professional advice and fitness expertise to the sessions.

That's not to say all those years spent writing TV commercials and designing posters have been wasted. My work in the past has been all about engaging with the public, putting messages across clearly and succinctly in a tone of voice that is both friendly and authoritative.

And in a nutshell, that's exactly what good personal training is all about.
